Summary: The crop breeding department and the labo- ratory of field crop quality of RI of Agriculture carry out joint studies to identify new high-yielding and high-quality varieties of bread wheat. In 2001-2003 considerable number of selec- ted lines was analyzed in terms of breeding and grain quality. The below table shows the data on yield, some yield components and grain quality. The highest values for 1000 grain weight were recorded for Turango\Chil\Frtl (8SA WYT -24) and SITE\5\ND\ VG9144\\KAL\BB\3\ YACO\4CHIL (19SA WSN-95), amounting to 44,5 9 and 46,8 g, respectively. High protein content was observed for Bezostaia I. The highest wet gluten content values were observed for the same entries: 40,0% and 35,5% respectively. The best yield of3, 6 t\ha was recorded for the entries ## 1,3, 5,7 and 8. The comprehensive research identified improved germplasm for further utilization in breeding for new species of winter bread wheat with high yield and grain quality.
