The Nicaraguan Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), in coordination with the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), developed the variety Nutrinta-Amarillo with the objective of dispersing it to some 35,000 Nicaraguan families living in rural areas. This variety would specifically aim to enhance the diet through increased protein.
