A healthy and productive nation in harmony with the land- this is the vision of the United States Department of Agriculture. Plant breeding is part of making this vision reali in fact, without plant breeding, the vision would be unattainable. Moreover, this is true all over the world. Every country or region has these twin needs: economic advantage and environmental sustainability. Plant breeding is one of society's tools to help reconcile these needs.
