Subject(s): Summary: Data from informal and formal farmer surveys in Iganga District, as well as secondary data, were analyzed to describe maize farmers' circumstances and practices, identify socio-economic and technical factors affecting the adoption of improved maize variety Longe 1 and the related practices and develop recommendations for research, extension, and policy. Generally, the adopters were more literate, were members of extension contact groups, hired labor and had non-farm income compared to non-adopters. Results of the logistic regression model showed that use of hired labor, level of education, membership in farmers' groups, and land tenure had statistically significant and positive effect on the probability of adopting Longe 1.
