Maize is an important staple crop in many tropical regions. Abiotic stress conditions, especially drought and low soil fertility (mainly low nitrogen stress), limit maize production in the tropics, where they frequently and low nitrogen stresses have been developed by the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). This study set out to investigate the genotype x environment interaction across stress conditions and testing locations, and combining ability of inbreds and hybrids.
