Abstract only
To establish optimal management practices contributing to high yield of maize experiments were carried out in Samegrelo region (Chkhorotsky) red soils. Four treatment were applied: I. check -common management practices widely accepted in the region. 2. drill row sowing with inter-row and inter-plant distances 70X35 cm, with two cultivations and pre-planting application of 7 .1/ha Eradikan + 1,5 l/ha 2,4 D at the stage of 3-5 leaves prior to the first cultivation. 3. the same as 2, with inter-row and inter- plant distances 70X30 cm. 4. same as 2 with inter-row and inter-plant distances 70X25 cm. The experiment field was characterized by yellow soil with 1,2 % humus in the arable layer the hydrolytic nitrogen content was 0,26-0,29%. Content of P205 per 100 g soil was 5,6 mg, content of K20 was 3,2 mg and PH was 4,15. Research data have ascertained advantage of treatment 2, where maize was sowed at 70X35 cm distances. Cultivation carried out twice; 7.1 ha pre-sowing application of herbicide Eradikan followed with 1,51 per ha application of 2,4D in the stage of 3-5 leaves. Applications of the above technology resulted in 60 c/ha yield of maize grains. In the check where the land management was in line with the practice established for the region maize yield was 50 c/ha, or 10 centners less compared to the best treatment. In terms of economic efficiency treatment 2 was the best as it resulted in 45% -reduction of weeds and for 20% improved productivity.
