Samples of four Polish wheat cultivars (cvs.) and one breeder line were analysed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) and PAGE in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS-PAGE). The combination of PAGE and SDS-PAGE was particularly suitable for detecting the presence of biotypes indicated by differences in either the gliadin PAGE or SDS-PAGE patterns of high molecular weight (HMW) glutenin subunits. Additionally, breakmaking quality of the wheat samples was estimated from the composition of the HMW glutenin subunits
