In: Maydica v. 22, no. 2, p. 49-7577-212609Summary: Sink-source relationships during reproductive development in maize are reviewed in order to identify avenues for grain yield improvement. Both sink and source limitations occur in maize. The particular combination of genotype and environment determines which limitation predominates. Desirable characteristics of genotypes which should produce maximally in either a sink-limiting or a source-limiting environment are discussed.
