The Strengthening Seed Marketing Incentives in Southern Africa to Increase the Impact of Maize Breeding Research? project was undertaken by CIMMYT during the period 2003-2005; as part of a larger seed marketing project, this baseline study used data collected from 1,200 farm households in 12 districts in Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe to construct indicators that could be used in future to measure the impacts of the adoption of improved maize varieties in the four countries. Districts surveyed included Lilongwe, Mzimba and Mongochi in Malawi; Manica, Sussundenga and Chokwe in Mozambique; Katete, Mkushi and Sinazogwe in Zambia; and Masvingo, Makoni and Guruve in Zimbabwe.
