520 _aMore than 80% of the population of Ethiopia is employed in agriculture. Maize covers about 25% of the cereal acreage in the country and cereals cover more than 75% of the crop area. This paper describes a joint programme of the Ministry of Agriculture and the NGO, Sasakawa Global 2000 Ethiopia, to promote research generated technologies with small-scale farmers. Maize is one of the important crops involved in this programme of field-scale (0.5 ha) demonstration plots for the dissemination of the technology developed jointly by research and extension. The program demonstrated what can be achieved in a short time using a pragmatic application of technology through true collaboration among policy makers, researchers. extension workers and farmers.
