520 | _aThe relationship between the results of some vigour tests, emergence in the field and yield was studied. The traditional germination, cold, accelerated aging, electrical conductivity tests and a new method, the so called complex stressing vigour test /CSVT/, were used to qualify seed lots of hybrid maize. The CSVT results were found to reflect the general physiological state of seed lots. The correlation between this test and early or normal field emergences is highly significant /r = 0.717, P = 0.001/, more so than with the traditional methods. The application of the CSVT method and a new estimation model lead to a more accurate and reliable prediction of field emergence, so that the optimum sowing date and the best method of utilization can be determined. Over the last 7 years suggestions have been made to sow maize on 1.5 million ha | ||
