520			_aThe author shows the progress made in ten years' experiment with triticales. This progress is more evident in recent years, when some triticale lines have higher yielding capacity than the best wheat varieties. Some important characters, controlled by genetic factors, have not yet needed a satisfactory level but they can be corrected by breeding work. Particular attention is dedicated to some parameters such as kernel characteristics (defined by the hectolitre weight), the high heading earliness (judged by the flowering date) and the protein percentage of the grain. Most of the triticales observed in this Station were bred in foreign centres, especially in
