After soaking in water the seeds were immersed in tetrazolium solution and treated by ultrasound frequency 22 kHz, intensity 0.69 W/cm('2) for from five to 10 minutes. The ultrasound treatment promoted penetration into imbibed seeds. After 24 hours staining at 20 deg C the seeds were boiled in lactophenol to clear the second coat.
