This study is based on data collected from 190 farmers in six districts in Sohag and Qena governorates during 1992/93 and on data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt. The report reviews the technological improvement of wheat in Egypt and recent pricing policy reform, analyses the productivity trends, presents the survey results on the adoption of wheat technologies in the heat-stressed environment of Upper Egypt and analyses its impact on profitability under different price scenarios. The impact of technological change on average yield and production value are also discussed. The economic returns of wheat research in the study area are examined and concluding remarks are given
