The aim of the present study was to screen advanced wheat lines with markers linked to genes Sr22, Sr24, Sr25, Sr26, Sr39 and Yr18/Lr34. Among the 170 lines, 21 CIMMYT lines resistant to the 5 most aggressive Kazakhstani pathotypes were identified. Eight of 42 genotypes assessed with markers generated the DNA fragment associated with Sr22. No lines possessed Sr25, Sr26 or Sr39 based on marker analysis. Seven lines produced the DNA fragment associated with Sr24 when amplified with primer Sr24#12. A high number of the lines, 25 of 42, were positive for Yr18/Lr34. Four of the lines have combined Sr24 and Yr18/Lr34. A number of advanced lines showed high yield potential combined with resistance to race Ug99 and to other Pgt races predominant in Central Asia. These results will assist breeders in Kazakhstan in choosing stem rust resistant parents for crossing ER -
