The objective of this study is to determine the heterosis and combining ability of 10 yellow Quality Protein Maize (QPM) inbreds. Among these 10 QPM inbreds, 5 are tropical and subtropical QPM inbreds introduced from CIMMYT, another 5 are from the domestic provinces. These 10 QPM inbreds were used to make up a 10-parent diallel and these 45 crosses were tested in three different environments in Yunnan Province and Guangxi Autonomous region. Highly significant difference was observed among 45 entries and 3 environments for grain yield, while non-significant difference among 3 replications. General combining ability (GCA) was highly significantly different for grain yield, while specific combining ability (SCA) was not significantly different. The highest-yielding cross was CML166 x Qi205 (10,880 kg/ha) and the lowest-yielding cross was Chang631/02 x Zhongxi096/02 (5,496 kg/ha). The highest value of GCA for grain yield is CML161 (1,010.53) and CMLI66 (947.J J), while the lowest value is Zhong x i096/02 (-I,J 19.98). The highest value of SCA f()r grain yield is CML194 x Xin910J/O2 (1,8J3.50) and CMLJ66 x Qi205 (J,272.00), while the lowest value is Xin910J/O2 x Qi205 (-J,670.96). According to the performance of grain yield, these J 0 QPM inbreds could be divided into 4 heterotic groups ER -
