Georgian RI of Agriculture cooperates with ICRISAT aiming at increase of groundnut production. High yielding varieties with tolerance to most important environmental stresses are available at ICRISAT Three groundnut nurseries with 15 lines in each were received from India for their testing in Georgian environment. These nurseries included short season groundnut, medium season groundnut and confectionary groundnut. The aim of the experiment was to select groundnut lines adapted to Georgian environment from the international nurseries. The tests were carried out at the experimental station of Georgian RI of Agriculture in 2002, on irrigated field with brown meadow soil. Groundnut was sown on 29 May, all 45 entries in three replications. Size of the plots was 5,0 X 1,2 m with 30 X l0 cm spacing. The crop was irrigated once during the whole vegetation period. No che- mical or organic fertilizers were applied. Favorable temperature was preserved during the entire vege- tation period (May- October). Soil cultivation and hoeing to control the weeds were performed twice (24 June and 22 July). No diseases or pests were observed during the vegetation period. Harvesting was done manually on 19 October. Yield of short season groundnut was recorded as 2063 kg/ha, while medium season groundnut yielded 1741 kg/ha and confectionary groundnut yielded 1817 kg/ha. Good productivity characteristics and stress tolerance was identified for the following lines: I. Short season groundnut nursery ICGV 95245, ICGV 95271, ICGV 95299 and ICGV 95319. 2. Medium season groundnut nursery ICGV 93115, ICGV93139, ICGV93143, ICGV94042 and ICGV 94046. 3. Confectionary groundnut nursery ICGV 95163, ICGV 95165, ICGV 95172, ICGV 96084 and ICGV96100. Promotion of groundnut cultivation in future is quite interesting prospect for Georgia as this would improve soil fertility, supplement the present low- income levels and meet market demand for .this product ofhigh economic value ER -
