However, declining investment in agriculture, reduced inputs and an increasingly variable production environment make this a significant challenge. Combining resource efficient agronomy with better adapted crop cultivars will be vital if the productivity of the world’s food producing systems is to be maintained or increased. The existence of genotype x resource conserving crop management practice interactions, traits controlling these interactions and breeding strategies that can be used to improve yield under conservation agriculture are discussed
