This resulted in greater competition among millers or bakers and elevation of protein quality to a major requirement. High industrial quality of wheat varieties is a major objective in the wheat breeding program in Zimbabwe. This experiment was designed to evaluate the range of variation among single plant selections of wheat in several wheat F2 populations. Selections were made from ninety F2 populations grown during the 1996 winter under irrigation at Harare Research Station. Sedimentation measurements were made on these selections and compared against those of the check varieties, Ruya and Deka. Deka is a variety with low industrial qualities whilst Ruya has high quality .The data was classified into categories of 5 milliliter intervals. frequency of various quality classes was determined. The classes ranged from 21 to 25"mlsedimentation values to 71 to 75 ml values. The results indicated that the majority of selections had sedimentation values higher than of Deka but lower than that of Ruya whilst 18 percent were equivalent or better than Ruya. Genetic relationships were drawn. Implications of this study are discussed ER -
