N2  - Growing degree days (GDD) is a parameter calculated as the average daily temperature less a predetermined base temperature. It is useful when maize growing periods are compared between locations or seasons that differ markedly in temperature, allowing maturities to be standardized because GDD gives a quantitative measure of ambient environmental heat available to support plant growth.
