Its importance increases north to south. Rhopalosiphum padi (L.) is the most widespread and important aphid vector. Three isolates-PAV-, RPV-, and MAV-like-can be found; PAV-like is the most severe, being ubiquitous. Depending on latitude, sowing date, and weather conditions, aphicide treatments are very often necessary to avoid yield reduction. For this purpose a forecasting system was developed in central France. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars resistant to BYD have been released in Italy T2 - Burnett, P.A. (ed.).
