The aphids were controlled by spraying the plots once or twice at different early growth stages of the plants. BYDV-infected plants occurred most frequently in the experimental fields in 1983 and 1986. In 1983 the mean yield increased 16 % and 38 % when the plots were sprayed twice with deltamethrin and oxidemetonmethyl, respectively. However, the number of aphids per culm was often significantly higher in plots treated with deltamethrin than in untreated plots T2 - Burnett, P.A. (ed.). World perspectives on barley yellow dwarf.
