N2  - Genetic studies on barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) resistance of spring and winter triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack) were conducted using parental lines representing the full range of variability of the species. In winter types, various estimators of resistance were compared to define which method gave the most valid information for the least expense of time. The final biomass of plants inoculated with a rather large number of aphids carrying a virulent PAV-like isolate was in itself a good estimator of resistance, and visual symptom notations were also useful if the artificial BYDV inoculation was uniform and severe enough to induce
