In a survey of the aphids colonizing cereal crops, the BYDV vector Rhopalosiphum padi (L.) was the predominant species in the first months of the year and Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) was also detected. In a preliminary study using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, samples of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), oats (Avena sativa L.), and triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack) plants were collected from farms located in southern Portugal and tested with a PAV antiserum T2 - Burnett, P.A.
