Summary (En) Research Institute for Cereals and Industrial Crops, 8264 Fundulea, Calarasi District (Romania) N2 - Studies were carried out in green house and laboratory conditions regarding the reaction to drought and heat stress of three maize hybrids: Fundulea 320, Fundulea 332/85 and Volga cultivated in Romania. The exposure to hydric stress was performed during intense growth stage and during pollination-fecundation stage and consisted in maintaining these plants at a 45 percent from the soil water potential. In order to study the reaction to thermal stress 2 weeks maize seedlings were used, hardened for 24 h at 37 degrees C and exposed for 1 h at 51 degrees C and 35 degrees C. Reaction to drought was measured by using the index stress for total accumulation of biomass and grains while for thermic stress the method of cell membrane thermostability was followed. The results obtained pointed out a good tolerance to hydric stress in Fundulea 320 and Fundulea 332/85 hybrids. From the point of view of tolerance to thermic stress Fundulea 332/85 was remarked. No strict relationship between drought and heat stress reactions was identified T2 - Romanian Agricultural Research (Romania). (1994). (no.1) p. 41-44 ER -
