N2  - In experiments which should have favoured transmission of Anaplasma marginale large numbers of buffalo flies were allowed to partially feed on calves with high parasitaemias and then to complete feeding on uninfected calves, but no calves became infected. Positive transmission was achieved by inoculating a calf with an extract prepared from flies a few minutes after feeding on an infected calf. The results indicate that the buffalo fly is unlikely to have a role in the epidemiology of anaplasmosis in Australia
