Summary (En) N2 - Formal seed systems, as promoted in numerous development projects and national policies, supply only a small portion of the total amount of seed planted by farmers and of a limited range of crops only. Local seed systems, which have been responsible for plant domestication and the development of land-races, are not sustainable under rapidly changing conditions and disasters. Integration of both systems is a technically interesting option. Linkages with on-farm research, gender groups and genetic conservation activities are needed. Methods for institutionalisation of integrated seed supply as system of continuous seed improvement remain to be investigated ER -
