The major thrust is towards more intensive feeding management through shifting livestock from uncontrolled and environmentally destructive systems into more intensive management systems. This can greatly improve livestock production and also facilitate more sustainable cropping and lower-cost erosion control. The major forage development strategies are listed in this paper and previous work on seed production in Ethiopia and current forage seed production systems including contract seed production and opportunistic seed collection are discussed.
