Standard climatic classifications are of little use in delineating ecological limits of various crops. Several procedures are cited to illustrate the complexity of the problem. Crop yields are determined by both the photosynthetic process and the phenological development of a crop and can be related to the energy budget and water balance. Several formulas for estimating maximum crop yields are discussed. In general, crop response to fertilizer application is reduced in areas of low climatic yield potential T2 - Agricultural Meteorology ER -
