Ten maize populations were grown in 5 field environments with 4 replications in each environment. Emergence percentage (E per cent), emergence index (EI), emergence rate index (ERI), dry-matter accumulation (DMA), growth rate (GR), and relative growth rate (RGR) were used as indicators for seedling vigor during the first 30 days of growth. Selection for yield was associated with reduced E per cent and reduced DMA in TZB, reduced DMA but increased E per cent in T2 - Maydica ER -
