The use of modified Murashige & Skoog and CC media, both supplemented with 1 g casein hydrolysate/litre and containingagarose instead of agar, gave the highest frequencies of somatic embryo induction. Plants were regenerated from 23 of the lines. There were strong genotypic effects on the capacity and frequency of embryogenic callus formation;cv. Golden Promise gave the best results. Experiments with field-grown material over 3 years showed that environmental factors also strongly influenced somatic embryogenesis and plant T2 - Theoretical and Applied Genetics ER -
