The major trend was a decline in yield upto 1900 followed by a gradual increase to the present time. The halt of the yield decline in 1900 coincided with the introduction of fallowing and the use of superphosphate. The relative performances of a range of cv. were expressed asa percentage of the yield of cv. Olympic; the recently released cv. Egret and Condor were most productive, yielding 108% of Olympic. It was concluded that 33%of the overall improvement in yield observed since 1898 could be attributed to the introduction of new cv T2 - Journal of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science ER -
