Pioneer Brand 3160, PioneerBrand 3320, Dekalb XL-80 and McCurdy 84 aa were rain-fed, given a water-deficit period during vegetative development or fully irrigated. 5 further cv. were usedin some of the trials. In 1980, total wilting periods were 41, 17 and 0 days, resp.; corresponding values for 1981 were 55, 15 and 0 days. Although water stresses during vegetative growth in 1980 and 1981 reduced LAI by 19%, plant ht.by 17% and grain yields by 10-15% on av., total leaf number was not significantly different in any of the treatments. Rainfed plants produced grain yields of only 45% and 33% of the T2 - Soil and Crop Science Society of Florida Proceedings ER -
