The effects of turkey's membership to European Union on agricultural trade with the middle Asian countries

The relationship of Turkey with both sides is unquestionably important. As a result of being an open country to west, trade with EU Countries has been very important for a long time. But on the other hand, especially trade with Middle Asian Countries has been increasingly important since 1990s. The objectives of this study are to analyze Turkish agricultural trade with Middle Asian Countries, determine factors influencing the trade, and estimate possible effects of trade liberalization with European Union on trade with these countries. The study focuses on analyzes of Turkish exports and imports of grains and pulses to Middle Asian and EU Countries. An econometric model is utilized to determine factors influencing Turkish agricultural trade with these countries. The amount of exports and imports will be taken as dependent variables and tariffs, prices, exchange rates, production amount and etc. will be taken as independent variables. After the model is solved one can have some information about the most important factors influencing the trade of pulses and grains. The result can be a useful tool for policy maker to evaluate and implement the necessary steps on the way of future trade with these countries.Collection: CIMMYT Publications Collection
