Summary: The experiment was carried out at the experimental station of the Georgian RI of Agriculture. The objective of the trial was to study resistance of maize to fungous diseases. The observations were conducted on 15 entries of the competitive varietial trials. The following fungous diseases were identified: helminthosporiosis leaf blight (Helminthosporium sativum), diplodia dry rot (Diplodia zeac), nigrospora corn rot (Nigro-spora oryzea), com smut(Ustilago maydis), sep-toria spot etc., while helminthosporiosis, fusarial wilt and com smut were the most common and wide-spread. The 3P-104, 3P-114, 3P-256, Qartuli-1, Tserovani-2 entries demonstrated complex immu- nity, where development of helminthosporiosis, fusarial wilt and corn smut did not exceed 5-6%,2- 3% and 1% respectively. Three entries 3P-307, 3P-304 and 3P-360 showed high susceptibility with the disease severity scores for helminthosporiosis, fusarial wilt and corn smut being equal to 20-26%, 15-17% and 5-7% respectively. Disease severity in other genotypes was less intensive.
