Yellow rust (Puccinia sriiformis Westend.) is one of the most important wheat diseases in Turkey. There have been three major yellow rust epidemics, which have caused significant yield losses in the last 10 years. The 1998 rust epidemic caused sporadic dis- ease reactions on the Plateau. One of the breeding fields of Anadolu Agricultural Research Station sho- wed intense infection, while no disease symptoms were observed in the other. The same year, under the disease pressure, average yields in the prelimi- nary field trial and field trial made 4,26 and 4,61 t/ ha, while the average yield of the selected lines, sus- ceptible lines (50S- 70S), and very susceptible lines (80S-1 OOS) from those trials yielded 5,27 and 5,23 t/ ha; 3,44 and 4,08; 3,02 and 3, 12 t/ha respectively. In this study, the effects of yellow rust on yield were also calculated using the formula and regression methods. The yield loss was found as high as 63,8% when the infection coefficient exceeded 60. By comparing the yields and screening results Of both sites, we were able to evaluate our breeding material and make the best selection for yellow rust resistance.
