Rainfed agricultural systems are characterized by high seasonal variability in labor demand, and often by low produtivity. As off-farm employment opportunities have grown, farm families often combine agriculture with other activities, even living away from the farm in some cases. This poses important challenges for researchers trying to develop new, more be available to implement new technology? What if new techology replaces labor?
