An experiment was conducted to study the effect of washing materials and packaging techniques on shelf life and quality of brinjal. It was washed with chlorine, packed in perforated and non perforated polyethylene bag kept at ambient condition resulted in substantial reduction in losses caused by disease incidence and weight loss. These treatment combinations also reduced compositional changes in acidity (0.224% to 0.173%) and vitamin C (I 0.34 mg/I 00g-7.31 mg/l00g). Brinjal washed with chlorine and packed in 0.5% perforated polyethylene had extended shelf life up to 7 days as compared to control for 3days only.
