The major research activities undertaken during the period of secondment at CIMMYT were: (a) the economics of crop variety replacement and rates of varietal turnover; (b) an economic evaluation. of the disease Kamal bunt of wheat; (c) analysis of the economic criteria for establishing plant breeding programs; and (d) a preliminary analysis of maintenance breeding and plant disease resistance. Details of these and other smaller research activities are provided.
