Underlying causes of reduced anthesis-silking interval in tuxpeño sequia

By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextLanguage: En Publication details: 1989Description: 10 pagesSubject(s): Summary: Causes of the reduction in anthesis-silking interval (ASI) resulting from 8 cycles of recurrent selection for drought tolerance in the population Tuxpeño Sequia were examined by dissecting plants grown under high density. Selection reduced days to tassel initiation (TI) and anthesis by 0.2 d.cycle -1, but days to upper ear initiation (EI), the interval between TI and EI, and days from TI to mid-anthesis were unaffected. Time to mid-silk, ASI and the interval form EI to mid-silk decreased by 0.6, 0.4 and 0.5 d.cycle -1 respectively. Selection non-significantly increased ear relative growth rates prior to silking, and slightly reduced spikelet number
