Bread wheat grain yield genotype by environmental interaction in North-Western Ethiopia

Subject(s): Summary: A bread wheat yield trial was conducted to investigate the genotype x environment interaction (GEI) of 14 genotypes grown at four locations for 3 years in Northwestern Ethiopia. Additive main effects and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) analysis was used to analyze GEI and the interaction was found to be significant (P=0.0l). Mean grain yield of genotypes across environments ranged from 3644 to 4897 kg ha-l. Several genotypes were specifically adapted, while a few genotypes showed stable performance across environments, however, with low grain yield performance. Further testing is necessary to develop genotypes which combine high and stable grain yield performance across environments, or to define agro-ecologies with more precise site specificity.
