Subject(s): Summary: Risk is pervasive in agriculture and particularly in rain-fed agriculture where yields are subject to higher degree of variation primarily due to variation in rainfall in addition to pests attack and disease outbreak. Risk associated with improved technologies influence smallholder farmers' adoption decision. Since smal1holder farmers are risk averse, they prefer to adopt technologies with lower level of risk to technologies with relatively higher level of risk given the same level of income ceteris paribus. This paper analyzes the risk associated with adoption of Boohai wheat variety by smal1holder farmers in Ada district of eastern Shoa zone using quadratic risk programming model. Boohai variety was introduced into the model at low and high rates of fertilizer application. The results showed that the cropping systems that included Boohai were more risk efficient than those without Boohai variety except with some exceptions at low rate of fertilizer application.
