An analysis of CIMMYT's present and future research strategies is presented in this paper. First, CIMMYT's original objectives, its policies, its collaboration with national research programs, its commitment to multidisciplinary research, and its participation as member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) are described. The paper next focuses on the Center's future role in developing germplasm, generating new technologies, and formulating adequate research strategies for developing countries
