Three strain-specific monoclonal antibodies (McAb), MAC 91, MAC 92, and MAFF2, were compared with two polyclonal antisera for the diagnosis of BYDV strains in immunosorbent electron microscopy. Used at an optimal dilution (1 ug/ml), the three McAbs specifically trapped the Rothamsted PAV-, RPV- and MAV-like isolates, unlike the polyclonal antisera, which showed considerable heterologous reaction. The test provides a simple and sensitive diagnostic method for BYDV, suitable for small immunosorbent assay results
