The history of thresher adoption and diffusion is traced, factors affecting adoption are reviewed, and the private costs and benefits measured. Factors such as irrigation, high yielding rice varieties, farm size, and credit facilities are shown to be correlated with adoption. Past and future investments were analyzed and benefits were found to be generally positive for owners and renters. The magnitude of benefits is believed to be the major reason for the recent paid adoption of threshers
