In: Photosynthetica (CSFR). (Oct 1991). v. 25(4) p. 575-582Summary: In order to characterize chilling resistance, the fluorescence induction parameters of five different maize inbred lines grown at temperatures ranging from 9 to 18 degrees Celsius (intervals of 1 degree Celsius) were determined. Below 13 degrees Celsius considerable changes occurred with decreasing temperature for each line. In this temperature region a multiple effect of chilling could be observed: the altered values of the different fluorescence indices reflected alterations in pigment contents and arrangement (Fo), the inhibition of electron flow [(Fi-Fo)/Fv], QA reduction (FR) and the loss of photosynthetic quantum yield (Fv/Fm). Fo/Chl, FR and Fv/Fm seemed to characterize the chilling resistance best. An exponential correlation was found between FR and Fv/Fm. On the basis of these fluorescence indices the maize lines examined could be divided into three groups with different chilling sensitivity
