New terms have been proposed for taxonomic characters derived from conidium origin, septation, maturation, and germination and from conidiophore proliferation in studies on the development of conidia and conidiophores in ten species of Helminthosporium, Corynespora, Exosporium, Sporidesmium, and Vakrabeeja. Although these criteria present difficulties of interpretation and exhibit a degree of inherent and environmentally induced variability, they are of value in delimiting genera and species and may prove to have broader application in a reorganization of the Deuteromycetes.
