In most cases the causers of stalk and ear rot diseases are fungi. Maize resistance to stalk rot depends on certain morphological and physiological characteristics of the maize plant. There are several types of the resistance mechanism. Mutual crossing of the genotypes of a different level of resistance indicate the possibilities of combining the yield with the resistance to rot pathogens. Realization of the breeding objective, that is the efficiency in the selection efforts, depends, to a great extent, on the correlation of single properties
