The effects of maize-derived compounds, DIMBOA (2, 4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-1, 4-benzoxazin-3-one) and MBOA (6-methoxybenzoxazolinone), on detoxification enzymes of the European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hubner), were examined. In vitro, DIMBOA increased NADH-cytochrome c reductase and NADH oxidase activities and did not affect N-demethylase, O-demethylase, or glutathione S-transferase activities.
