Subject(s): In: Applied and Environmental Microbiology v. 53, no. 7, p. 1593-1595615051Summary: When 9 Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus isolates were screened on a coconut extract agar medium, aflatoxin-producing colonies were detected under long-wave UV light (365 nm) by blue fluorescence on the reverse side after 2-5 dof growth. Aflatoxin production was verified by chemical analysis. Several typesof shredded coconut available in the USA were tested and proved satisfactory. Noadditives were required. Various parameters affecting the test were investigated.
